ALLEGHENY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE 2007 BUDGET RECAP

The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to issue this 2007 year-end budget overview.

In these times of economic uncertainty, Sheriff William Mullen and his office worked diligently to meet the adopted 2007 budget and operate in a fiscally responsible manner.  Not only did his office meet that goal, but surpassed it by coming in under budget by more than $100,000.  For the first time in recent history, all levels of spending came in under the adopted appropriations, while at the same time labor costs increased significantly.

And as the Sheriff’s Office has taken on increased responsibilities, a greater portion of the costs to run the office than ever before are self-generated through fees, contracts, and grants in an effort to ease the burden on the taxpayers.

The Sheriff’s Office has met operational challenges by reorganizing internally, and with a reduced staff performing more proficiently.  Sheriff Mullen is dedicated to promoting organizational excellence by streamlining operations and increasing efficiency through technology; improving the accounting system; providing professional training to personnel and other law enforcement; improving security for judicial proceedings; and reducing preventable accidents and injuries.

Sheriff Mullen extends his appreciation to our County officials and departments for their cooperation and assistance to the Sheriff’s Office in the budget process throughout fiscal year 2007.

In addition to finishing 2007 under budget, revenues for the office were also on the rise due to providing a better level of service of civil process and collection of warrant fees.
