It is an unfortunate reality, but another disturbing trend of foreclosure is the increasing number of abandoned pets left behind in foreclosed homes.  The current mortgage crisis has made it difficult for many pet owners to keep their beloved animals.  They are desperate to find temporary care or new homes for their displaced pets.

Sheriff Bill Mullen would like pet owners facing foreclosure to know that help is available to them for their animals.  If you are facing foreclosure and cannot care for your pet, or if you know of an animal that has been abandoned, make use of available resources.  Please contact one of the local animal shelters or rescue groups listed below for more information.

For tips on how to assist families and their pets during the foreclosure process, make contact with No Paws Left Behind, Inc., a wonderful, non-profit organization that cares for and places in good homes these helpless victims of foreclosure.  Check out their website at www.NoPawsLeftBehind.org to learn more.

The good people of No Paws Left Behind, Inc. understand the devastation of pet owners dealing with foreclosure; not only are families facing the prospect of losing their homes, but their precious pets as well.  Read on for an excerpt from their website on how they can help --

Foreclosure pets who were once a vital part of a happy family suddenly find themselves alone, helpless, and in many cases, starving due to foreclosure.  Most owners never intended for the end of a relationship that was once loving to turn abusive, but it’s important to understand the emotional toll it takes on a family to lose a home.  It’s not always easy to find a good home for a pet, or possible to take a loyal friend along to a new home, or a temporary stay with relatives.  Many times, an animal who has become a part of the family is not taken to a shelter for care, for fear of the pet being euthanized.

But there are choices and there are solutions.  No Kill shelters will always find adoptive families and good homes for paws that are left behind.  Foster care is available for temporary care until permanent living solutions are found.  No Paws Left Behind, Inc. can help provide monetary assistance for pet deposits required by new landlords.  We are here to help.’
