SHERIFF MAKES FIREARMS LICENSE APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE ONLINE

February 26, 2008

(ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA) – Allegheny County Sheriff William Mullen today unveiled an online application system for County residents applying for, or renewing a license to carry a concealed firearm.  Recognizing the difficulties citizens encounter in traveling downtown to apply for their permits, Sheriff Mullen instituted a process that will allow applicants to submit required information with the aid of a computer and the Internet.

The application form is now available at the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office’s official website, www.sheriffalleghenycounty.com. Users should click on the firearms link located at the top of the homepage, where additional instructions are provided.  The Sheriff anticipates that this will alleviate any burden previously placed on citizens while applying for firearms permits.

“Due to severe budgetary concerns, the Sheriff’s Office had to regretfully limit operational hours in the firearms division.  We have been working hard to instate a solution that is both fiscally responsible and more convenient for our County residents.  We are pleased to offer this online application and will remain committed to our duty of performing extensive background checks on every individual applying for a license,” Sheriff Mullen said.

The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office Firearms Division will continue to be open to the public Monday thru Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.  It is closed weekends and holidays.
