Sheriff William P. Mullen announces the apprehension of Melissa Scalise, 30 years old, from the Carrick section of Pittsburgh. Scalise was wanted on a warrant charging her with two counts of Simple Assault Victim Under 12 Defendant Over 21 and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of Children. These charges stem from an alleged incident involving Scalises’ own children. In one of the cases it is alleged that Scalise did this because her child did not understand his homework. In the criminal complaint it further states that Scalise told a C.Y.F. caseworker that C.Y.F. can take the children and the she no longer wanted them. These charges were filed against Scalise in November of 2007. Police were unable to locate her and a bench warrant was given to Sheriff’s Deputies last month. After attempting several addresses for Scalise and being unsuccessful at locating her, it was decided to feature her on Comcast On Demand as one of the Sheriff’s Office “20 Most Wanted”.
This evening Sheriff’s Deputies received information from a Comcast viewer that led them to an address in the 900 block of Parkwood Road, located in the Arlington area of Pittsburgh. As deputies surrounded the residence Scalise observed them through an open front door and attempted to escape or hide. Her efforts were unsuccessful and she was apprehended still inside the house. Scalise will be lodged in the Allegheny County Jail until she has a bond hearing within the next 72 hours.
