FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 7, 2008

Sheriff William P. Mullen announces the apprehension of Arthur Paul Smith, 29 years of age from the Mt. Washington section of the City of Pittsburgh. Smith was wanted on 6 criminal bench warrants all issued in the last two weeks. Smith was wanted for failing to appear in court on charges of Robbery, Burglary, Firearms Violations (4), Escape, Ethnic Intimidation and Intimidation of a Witness or Victim. Due to the severity of these charges, Smith was featured by the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office as one of the "20 Most Wanted" on both their website and Comcast "On Demand" Fugitive Files segment.

Last evening Sheriff's Deputies received a tip from a Comcast viewer that led them to an address in Mt. Washington. Upon arrival at this address, deputies learned that Smith had already moved out of this residence knowing that he was being featured as one of the most wanted. After these deputies made it known in this neighborhood ad to whom they were searching for, tips were received from four other people who did not know Smith was wanted and stated that they feared having him in their neighborhood. These deputies continued working on this case late last evening and today developing more information. This evening, Sheriff's Deputies were able to track Smih to the Palm Garden Apartments located on Boggs Avenue, also in Mt. Washington. Once at this apartment, Smith refused to answer the door and a forced entry was made. Smith was apprehended in a bedroom of this apartment without further incident.

Smith will be held without bond in the Allegheny County Jail until he has a hearing in front of a Court of Common Pleas Judge.
