Sheriff William P. Mullen announces the apprehension of two of Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office “Most Wanted” in a less than a thirty-minute period this evening. The first apprehension was of James Schwartz, 36 years old, from the Beechview area of the City of Pittsburgh. Schwartz was wanted on two bench warrants issued from the Court of Common Pleas on May 28, 2008. Schwartz violated his probation on both cases. The original charges on these warrants were Aggravated Indecent Assault, Indecent Assault Without Consent of Others, Corruption Of Minors, and Theft by Unlawful Taking. Schwartz was featured on both the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office website and Comcast On Demand “Most Wanted” segment.

This evening, Sheriff’s Deputies acting on a tip from a Comcast viewer found that Schwartz was staying in a residence located in the 1500 block of Chelton Avenue located in Brookline, also in the City of Pittsburgh. Deputies went to this residence and observed Schwartz standing on the front porch. As these deputies approached Schwartz he ran into this residence and attempted to exit a rear basement door. Schwartz was apprehended as he exited this door without further incident. Schwartz will be held without bond in the Allegheny County Jail. Schwartz is listed on Pennsylvania State Police Megan’s Law Website as a sexual offender. According to this website he has not registered since 2/20/07. In the morning Sheriff’s Deputies will confirm with the Pennsylvania State Police in Harrisburg as to if Schwartz is still required to register. If this is found to be true Schwartz will face additional charges.

The second apprehension was of Shayla Herring, 22 years old, from the Northside area of Pittsburgh. Herring was wanted on a warrant charging her with Aggravated Assault. Herring was also featured on both the Sheriff’s Office website and Comcast On Demand. This evening a separate Comcast viewer saw Herring on the “Most Wanted” segment and phoned 911. Pittsburgh Police Officer Mark Pisano along with other officers went to the address provided by the Comcast viewer. This address was located in the 100 block of Rhine Place also in the Northside. Herring was apprehended without incident and she also will be held in the Allegheny County Jail without bond.
