The 3rd Annual Day of Remembrance was held in the County Courtyard from noon until 1:30 pm on Sept. 25. This day is dedicated to honor the memory of all who have lost their lives to violence. We will honor all victims & children whose lives have been affected.
Many contributors came out for the event including the Court of Common Pleas - Criminal Division, Allegheny County Chief Executive Office, Allegheny County Sheriff's Office, Office of the District Attorney, Parents of Murdered Children (POMC), The Center for Victims Violence and Crime (CVVC), Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR), Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh and Womansplace. Sheriff Mullen represented the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office by leading the Pledge of Allegiance. In addition to the Sheriff, he was accompanied by the Honor Guards including Sergeant James Snyder, Deputy James Scholtz, Deputy Erica Vasser-Pimpkin, Deputy Keith Luffey and Deputy Barb Sparrow along with Deputy Ricky Manning who served as bagpiper.
Many families and friends of victims that lost their lives came out for the event. Supporters showed up with shirts and signs paying their respects to loved ones that have passed on. Also, balloons were given to the crowd to write lost ones names on the balloon and then released into the atmosphere as a sign of respect. Pictures from the day's event to come soon!
