Furnished in testament of his outstanding efforts responding to a home invasion that occurred in the City of Pittsburgh at approximately 0325 hours on Friday, April 8, 2016. The actors, who were unknown to the victim, stole items from the residence before fleeing in the victim’s vehicle, a white Chevrolet Camaro with a Texas license plate. Deputy Thompson subsequently reported to the area in an attempt to locate the suspects.
At 0340 hours, while positioned near the intersection of Technology Drive and Bates Street, Deputy Thompson observed the vehicle on Second Avenue. Deputy Thompson and a Pittsburgh police unit followed the Camaro onto the Parkway East. The vehicle began to accelerate, leading police in a pursuit at speeds exceeding 70 mph. The vehicle left the Parkway at the Squirrel Hill exit and traveled to the 4100 block of Saline Street, where the driver jumped from the moving car, leaving it to wreck into a city police unit. The responding city officer began to pursue the driver on foot, as Deputy Thompson withdrew his duty weapon and ordered the two remaining passengers to reveal their hands from inside the vehicle. Deputy Thompson observed a firearm situated on the vehicle’s backseat, adjacent to one of the passengers. Deputy Thompson ordered both actors to place their hands outside the car windows. Shortly thereafter, back-up assistance arrived on scene, the actors were removed from the vehicle and the loaded firearm was secured. The passengers were searched and a knife was recovered from one of the actors.
Deputy Thompson is hereby presented this Certificate of Commendation for his diligent efforts to pursue a vehicle that had been stolen by three felony suspects immediately after they committed a home invasion and for ensuring two of the suspects, one of whom was armed, were apprehended without injury to any party present.
