Furnished in testament of his exemplary work in the investigation and recovery of a 13 year-old girl who went missing from the City of Pittsburgh on September 4, 2016.
On November 28, 2016, Lieutenant Jack Kearney was contacted by the girl’s father, who had reported her missing to the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police the date of her disappearance. However, the girl remained missing for the next 54 days and the teenager’s father asked Lieutenant Kearney if he could help find her. Lieutenant Kearney and Detective Thomas Ninehouser initiated an ACSO investigation into locating the whereabouts of the missing girl. They gathered information through multiple sources, including social media, determining the girl was staying at a residence in the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. As a result of the subsequent investigation and contact with the Chicago Police Department, the girl was located two days later on November 30, 2016. It was established the girl ran away from home and there was nothing to indicate criminal activity. The girl was reunited with her father and returned home to Pittsburgh.
Lieutenant Kearney is hereby presented this Certificate of Commendation for his outstanding efforts above and beyond duty resulting in the safe return of a 13-year old girl who went missing from Allegheny County a total of 54 days, and for his notable proficiency in locating the girl within two days of investigating her whereabouts.
