PITTSBURGH, PA - Sheriff William P. Mullen announces the apprehension of over sixty (60) fugitives in the past thirty-six hours. Beginning yesterday morning at 7 AM, sheriff’s deputies began a massive warrant sweep. During the week between Christmas and New Years Day the Criminal Court schedule is not as busy as normal. The more serious criminal cases are usually not scheduled during this time period and as a result, Sheriff Mullen was able to reassign deputies normally working in the courts to assist in this effort. Deputies served warrants areas throughout the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. During the warrant sweep, sixty-nine (69) fugitives were arrested. Fifty-three (53) fugitives were arrested on criminal bench warrants. The charges on these warrants ranged from crimes such as retail theft, prostitution, drug charges, driving under the influence, robbery, burglary and sexual assault charges. Also, there were fifteen (15) people arrested for failing to appear in court for child support. Another fugitive was arrested on a warrant for violating a Protection from Abuse order. In addition to those arrests, deputies also arrested three people on new criminal charges. Furthermore, two people were charged with hindering apprehension and another fugitive was charged with firearms violation charges.
