PITTSBURGH, PA – Sheriff William P. Mullen announces the apprehension of Darnisha Mills, 24 years of age from Pontiac, MI.
Mills was wanted, along with her boyfriend, Gregory McKenith Sr. for failing to abide to a custody court order issued on October 17, 2011. The court order directed Mills and McKenith Sr. to relinquish their child, Gregory T. McKenith Jr. to Children, Youth and Family Services. The couple failed to do so and have been on the run since. Monday morning, CYF officials contacted the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office to help locate the couple and child. After gathering information on the case, sheriff’s deputies made contact with McKenith Sr and had him surrender to deputies. McKenith Sr. stated that he did not know the whereabouts of Mills or his child. He was charged with Kidnapping, Interference with the Custody of a Child, Concealment of the Whereabouts of a Child, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Criminal Conspiracy. At this point, sheriff’s deputies released information to the public late last night asking for any help in locating Mills and McKenith Jr.
Knowing that she wanted for the same charges as McKenith Sr., Mills fled from Pittsburgh to her hometown of Pontiac, Michigan. Sheriff’s deputies were able to make contact with family members and arranged for Mills to surrender with her son. Shortly after 3:30 PM, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies took custody of Mills and McKenith Jr. Mills is being held at the Oakland County Jail, where she will await extradition to Allegheny County. McKenith Jr. is on his way back to the Pittsburgh area with sheriff’s deputies, where he will be given to CYF as ordered by the court.
