PITTSBURGH, PA – Each and every year since taking over as Sheriff, Bill Mullen has made it a priority to do a “warrant sweep” around the holidays for family division warrants. By apprehending and bringing these fugitives in front of the courts, the hope is to provide plaintiffs with extra money for the holiday season.
In the month of December, Sheriff Mullen sent out four teams of deputies to cover South Pittsburgh neighborhoods, including Allentown, Arlington, Beechview, Beltzhoover, Brookline, Carrick, Knoxville and Mt. Washington, as well as Brentwood and Mt. Oliver Boroughs. The sweep produced 35 apprehensions, which was made up of 43 total warrants and family division arrearages totaling $248,719.66.
For the entire month, the Sheriff’s Office cleared 176 family division warrants including more than 114 physical arrests, which totaled $847,264.20 in arrearages
Hopefully our efforts made a few children’s holiday a little merrier. Happy holidays from the Sheriff Bill Mullen and the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office!
