PITTSBURGH, PA – Sheriff William P. Mullen is announcing a new flag retirement program for citizens wanting to respectfully dispose their American Flag. The National Flag Foundation (NFF) and National Association of Counties (NACo selected the Sheriff Mullen and the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office as their ally to decommission flags within the county.
Much like our prescription pill collection and destruction program, Project D.U.M.P., citizens can contact the Sheriff’s Office to accept flags at community events or meetings, as well as a residential pickup. The Office, in cooperation with the NFF and NACo, will decommission your flag by proper disposal.
In addition to community events and scheduled pickups, Sheriff Mullen has placed a submission box outside of Room 111 in the Courthouse at the Ross Street entrance, if you would like to drop off your used flag in-person.
